Earlobe Repair

Earlobe Repair in New York City, NY

How Is My Earlobe Repaired?

You will be awake for the entire procedure.  Dr. Rose will inject a local anesthetic directly into the damaged earlobe. After allowing several minutes for the medication to take effect, Dr. Rose will then remove the scar tissue that is preventing the ear from healing. Once this damaged skin is removed, Dr. Rose will close the torn side with fine sutures.  The entire process takes usually less than 20-30 minutes.

What Happens Next?

The sutures remain in your ear for approximately two weeks. During this time you do not have to change your lifestyle. You may participate in all of your usual daily activities including showering. There are no bandages. All that you need to do is occasionally place some antibiotic ointment over the repaired area.

The only recommendation is that you do not place any undue pressure on the repaired earlobe. Therefore avoid using the damaged ear to talk on the phone for long periods of time. It is also wise to try to avoid sleeping on the ear as well.

After two weeks Dr. Rose will remove the sutures. The wound will still be weak, however, so patients normally should wait another month before the repaired earlobe is re-pierced. If you wish, you may wear small clip-on earrings during this time.

How Do I Get My Ears Re-pierced?

One month after suture removal Dr. Rose will re-pierce your ears at one of his Manhattan offices at no extra charge. Simply bring a small stud earring for your appointment. The stud must remain in place for another month while new skin around it heals to form the new hole. Then your ears are ready to look great again!

What’s The Cost?

Earlobe repair is often fully covered by medical insurance. You are only responsible for any outstanding co-pays and/or deductibles.  If you do not have insurance, or if we do not accept your particular insurance plan, please call the office for a price quote. Regardless the consultation is always free.
